Honor a Vet on These Special Spring Days

Veteran’s Day in November is a wonderful time to step back and focus on honoring our nation’s military veterans. However, you do not need to wait until November to do this. There are many special days throughout every month of the year that can give you opportunities to do something special for a vet.
Following are some notable days coming up this spring that can be devoted to making the day of a vet brighter and to thanking him or her for service to our country.

  • March 16—Freedom of Information Day
For every freedom that we enjoy in this country, we owe thanks to our veterans. Thank a vet for this particular freedom today.
  • April 19—National Day of Silence
Use this day to reflect quietly on the freedoms that you enjoy thanks to United States military veterans. You could even take a vet to a church or other service dedicated to silent reflection for this purpose.
  • April 23—National Picnic Day
Pack a picnic basket, grab a blanket and take your favorite vet out to the park for a picnic. Be conscious of his or her contribution to your ability to enjoy this simple pleasure.
  • May 10—National Military Spouse Appreciation Day
Every active military spouse today will be a veteran someday. If you are married to a serviceman or woman, let him or her know how proud you are.
  • May 18—National Armed Forces Day
This is a fabulous day to celebrate all members of our armed forces, whether active or veteran.
  • Last Monday in May—Memorial Day
Many vets have suffered the loss of their peers while in the line of duty. Light a candle with a vet today in honor of at least one fallen soldier who deserves to be remembered.

In addition to individual days, April is National Stress Awareness Month and the experience of post-traumatic stress is real for veterans. Learn new ways that you can help a vet or better understand the needs of people facing this issue.

Being conscious of the need and ability to thank and honor U.S. military veterans at all times of the year rather than just in November is important. You can even consider purchasing special Commemorative Military Apparel or Military Career Service Rings or Commemorative Watches as another way to share your feelings and appreciation.
