Help Restore The Battleship New Jersey

Veterans Commemorative is pleased to be working with The Battleship New Jersey Museum and Memorial to assist in fundraising efforts to maintain and support America’s Largest and most decorated battleship, on which thousands of brave Navy and Marine Corps Servicemen served during World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Lebanon and the Gulf War Mission

This proud ship was decommissioned for the last time on February 8, 1991 at Bremerton, Washington where she resided until heading home to New Jersey in September 1999. After a two year initial restoration project it was opened to the public as an educational museum and a fitting tribute to the men and women who built her, and the brave sailors who served on her during her long and distinguished career.

Experience the Battleship New Jersey:

America's largest and most decorated Battleship is now an exciting museum on the Delaware Riverfront in Camden, New Jersey and is open for tours, events and overnight encampments. Exploring “BB-62” is experiencing history in a whole new way. Not only do you see exhibits of artifacts from the ship’s past, but you are put into the exhibit as you go through the tour route. Sit in the chair from which Admiral William “Bull” Halsey commanded the fleet during the largest naval battle in history; Leyte Gulf. Stretch out on the bunks where the sailors slept. Climb into the 16” gun turret and learn how during battle the projectiles were loaded and fired every 30 seconds by a gunnery crew of 77 men!

From the moment you step across the ship’s brow you will understand that this is a museum where visitors take an active role. From strolling across the forecastle, to climbing the original ladders up to the bridge and beyond, each step in your journey brings you closer to understanding what life was like for a sailor on the Battleship New Jersey. Maintaining the Legacy:

The ongoing mission of continuing to restore this historic ship, and provide a unique experience for future generations, is under the dedicated operation of the “Home Port Alliance for Battleship New Jersey.” In 2011 the Alliance appointed Affinity Marketing Associates and Veterans Commemoratives, in Radnor, Pennsylvania, to create appropriate commemorative items to mark the tenth anniversary of the opening of the Battleship New Jersey Museum and Memorial. Special Commemorative Medallions and “Challenge Coins” were issued to raise funds to maintain the legacy for the future.

Owning a piece of Military History: For 2012 a major initiative is to raise funds to replace the wood decking on the ship. To commemorate this effort, a unique plaque has been created featuring an actual piece of original decking. In addition, each plaque contains an action photo of the ship’s guns firing and a serially numbered brass nameplate. This unique piece of Military History will be treasured by those who acquire one for their family.

Or, for information on ordering this special plaque call the Battleship New Jersey representatives at Veterans Commemoratives at 1-800-255-3048
