A Tribute to Those Who Served in Korea

The United States military, comprised entirely of volunteers, is one of the largest militaries in the world. In modern times, the U.S. has used their strength to protect their interests around the world and help protect others threatened by outside invaders.  The US has often served as a lead in UN coalitions to protect those who aren’t able to protect themselves. One example is when the United States led the UN coalition into the Korean Peninsula to turn back the North Korean invasion.

What became known as the Korean War started on June 25, 1950, when North Korea crossed the 38th parallel and invaded South Korea. That same day, the United Nations recognized the invasion and called for a ceasefire. On June 27th, the UN adopted a resolution to send forces to aid South Korea. The U.S. military sent its air, sea and land forces to help the UN repel the invasion. The United States service members made up 88% of the total UN military coalition forces. Of those, 33,686 US soldiers gave everything and would not make it home.
