A Tribute to Real Heroes: Memorial Day

Overview

Being in the military is not simply going to the field and fighting as it takes much more than just courage and bravery. We know courage and bravery are not very common traits but they are not the only traits of armed forces. They see a lot before and after they land on the battleground. The most prominent characteristic of a person from the armed forces is the sacrifice. Sacrificing the time one could spend with his parents so you can spend lovely time with yours.

Sacrificing the numerous weekend plans with friends so you can enjoy hanging out with yours. Sacrificing the pleasure they find in the arms of their significant others so they you can enjoy a happy, healthy ad safe love life. An army person is not just a human but an epitome of bravery, courage, and tolerance. As he tolerates seeing his colleagues die before him as he cannot move back and just hold them for one last time because he has to move further.

A person from the armed forces infuses hope into the entire nation even when he might not be feeling hopeful on the inside. They give us a reason to rejoice our lives and celebrate victory so they are our real life heroes.

History of Memorial Day

Memorial Day was primarily known as Decoration Day owing to the fact that it had its origin in the custom of decorating graves of soldiers.

There are various claims about the birth of Memorial Day as there are many claims that this day was originated from Waterloo as mentioned in the presidential proclamation signed by President Johnson which said that Waterloo, New York was the birthplace of this day.

However, other places that claim to be the original birthplace of this occasion include Pennsylvania, Illinois, Georgia and Columbus etc.

Why Celebrate Memorial Day

Memorial Day is one of the federal holidays in the US, which is celebrated to remember the people who lost their precious lives while serving the armed forces. This day is not a day of celebration but one out of the 365 days when we pay tribute to the brave heroes of our country.

This day we not only pay tribute to the martyred people from the forces but also pay gratitude to them. We thank them for being brave enough to sacrifice their lives for the nation we all live in. We stand in solidarity with the relatives and loved ones of the departed souls to show them that the sacrifice of their dearest friends, siblings or children isn’t forgotten.

The whole nation takes pride in those people who displayed valor and selflessness to prove their patriotism. We need to show their families that if their dear ones loved the nation then the nation also loved them equally.

Thus, each year this day is celebrated to make every person realize the sacrifices, courage, tolerance and determination of the top armed forces of US and raise the slogan “Land of the Free because of the Brave”.
